Televising people in difficult situations can persuade people not to following in their footsteps…unless all they want is to be on tv. The problem with shows like Teen Mom or 16 and Pregnant is that some girls are deliberately getting pregnant (or re-pregnant) to get a little air time. Once you have been through the struggle of a young pregnancy, one would assume you would at least get on birth control, but many of the girls on these shows are getting pregnant a second time.
Atleast three of Teen Mom’s girls (Kailyn Lowry, Jenelle Evans and Leah Messer) and over seven of 16 and Pregnant’s girls (Nikkole Paulun, Jordan Ward, Ebony Rendon, Kristina Robinson Head, Jamie McKay, Brooke Smitherman-Tarran, and Markai Durham) have all have announced a second pregnancy. Some actually came out and said that they want to have a second child to redeem themselves from previous episodes with a new show.
“Me and Jenelle are so happy that she’s pregnant,” Jenelle’s new husband said to star. “She told me, ‘I’m looking forward to a second chance. She thinks if she can prove that she’s a good mother, she can get Jace back.” Her son was taken away from her in an earlier season.
The original cast of Teen Mom all said they hoped other girls would learn from them the struggles of young pregnancy and the necessity of contraception, but it seems that the newer casts aren’t feeling the same way. They are willing to go through another hard pregnancy to get the little money and large amounts of publicity that the show offers.
